National Girl Child Day : Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.

Since 2008, January 24 is celebrated as National Girl Child Day in India every year. The nationwide celebrations are led by the Department of Women Development and Child Development. The purpose of the day is to spread public awareness of the inequalities girls face in Indian society, to promote awareness of the rights of the girl child and the importance of women's education, health, nutrition including women safety and women rights.

The day coincides with government campaigns and programs such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Save the Girl Child, free / sponsored education, and having some women's reservtions at colleges and universities.

How is National Girl Child Day 2022 celebrated?

This day is celebrated with events and programs based on annual themes. In 2019, the theme was 'Empowering Girls for a Better Future'. ‘It was my word, our common future’ in 2020.

This year, the Ministry of Culture is organizing an event called ‘Umang Rangoli Utsav’, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. As part of the event, participating teams will be performing Rangoli decorations at more than 50 special venues across the country, a media report said yesterday.

One-kilometer Rangoli ornaments will be made on the streets and in the squares named after women freedom fighters or role models.

In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will work with and rejoice with the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) on this day, in the presence of Minister for Women and Children Development Smriti Zubin Irani and Minister of State Munjpara Mahendrabhai.
